Review copies of GTA 6 reportedly carry a watermark showing the reviewer's name on screen, according to Notebookcheck. The claim comes from content creator Jeremy, known as ManaByte, in a social media post. Rockstar has confirmed nothing.

What exactly does ManaByte say?

Per Notebookcheck, the Xbox and PS5 review codes would display the critic's name over the picture. A journalist who shared content from those copies could be "eternally blacklisted from all future Rockstar releases," in the creator's words. Mezha repeats the same version and notes that other publishers already mark pre-release builds this way.

The codes reportedly went out about three weeks before the November 19 release, says Notebookcheck. That fits what we reported yesterday: codes sent, embargo expected the day before launch.

Why would Rockstar take that approach?

Since the Cyberleek leaks, the studio knows what a clip circulating early costs, and we followed the announced comeback four days ago. An on-screen name lets Rockstar trace a capture back to its source. Notebookcheck points out that visible text can be removed, and that subtler invisible markers are possible, though nothing shows Rockstar uses them. It cites Denuvo TraceMark as an existing product, without saying the studio relies on it.

What remains unknown

No statement from Rockstar or Take-Two confirms the watermark or the penalty. The review embargo has no official date. The launch frame rate target, 30 fps per an earlier report relayed by Notebookcheck, is also unconfirmed. Our release page keeps the established facts.

Why it matters

For players, nothing changes until reviews land: if the watermark exists, it makes press leaks riskier, not impossible. The next question is the embargo. If it lifts on November 18, the first verdicts arrive a day before the game.
