Sony told distributors PS5 Pro supply will stay constrained into 2027, per Playfront via Engadget, as GTA 6 launches on 19 November.

The PS5 Pro is running short, and GTA 6 may make it worse. According to Engadget, citing an exclusive from German outlet Playfront, Sony has told distribution partners that "temporary market supply constraints and high demand" will limit retail stock until at least 2027.

The console, released in November 2024, brings a stronger GPU, 60 fps performance and better ray tracing. Engadget says its price is now $200 above the original $699.99, and resellers are cashing in: one listing sits at $1,539 at Best Buy. It blames the AI boom limiting access to advanced chips and cites memory price jumps in South Korea of 445% for DRAM and 244% for flash, per The Economist.
Engadget thinks so: the 19 November launch, no announced PC version and the wish to play at the best visual quality would drive demand. That is its analysis, not Sony data. No cited source says GTA 6 runs better on PS5 Pro or details a dedicated mode. We are waiting for Rockstar to confirm performance (what we know about a PC version).
A standard console is enough: the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Series S included, and nothing requires a Pro. If you want a Pro, beware of inflated listings, and plan the download: preloading opens on 12 November (release dates).

A PS5 Pro shortage does not stop anyone playing GTA 6, but it makes the "ideal" setup dearer and scarcer before the holidays. To our knowledge Sony has not commented publicly: for now everything rests on a report relayed by Engadget.
