The GTA community has lost one of its own. Jerry Fort, 25, known online as Void Only, died on October 29, according to GTA BOOM. His family announced his death in a video on his TikTok account around November 2. He will not see the game, due on November 19.
He had lived with interstitial lung disease since he was 17. In August he posted a video from his ICU bed. "I just want to play GTA VI," he said, with the usual joke about Rockstar delays. The clip spread fast and turned a private fight into a community cause.
His mother, Paris Fort, set up a GoFundMe for his lung transplant. GTA BOOM reports that the community pushed it well past its goal, with more than $96,000 from thousands of donors. Jerry hoped to stream the game with the people who had backed him.
He received the transplant in September. Recovery was hard, with serious complications. By his family's account, on October 28 Jerry decided he was ready to stop fighting, and he died the next day. "He was at peace," his sister said in the video, thanking everyone who made his last months beautiful. Their mother is planning a balloon release in his honor.
