GTA 6: 10 things to know before the November 19 release

Sixteen days before launch, what should you know before starting GTA 6? Insider Gaming listed ten things. We go through them here, separating what Rockstar confirmed from what comes from previews.

Which platforms, and when?

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC or Switch 2 version has been announced, Insider Gaming notes. The unlock time is still unknown. The outlet mentions a local-midnight unlock in each time zone, which would let New Zealand play first. That is a hypothesis, not an announcement: see our piece on staggered release times.

Who do you play, and where?

Two playable characters: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple. According to Insider Gaming, it is the first GTA played as a couple and the first with a female lead. Rockstar describes two partners trying to get out of crime who get caught in a conspiracy threatening the whole state.

Vice City is not the whole setting: it is the main city of Leonida, the fictional state inspired by Florida. Around it: Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park. The map is said to be roughly the size of GTA 4, GTA 5 and RDR2 combined, per previews.

What changes in gameplay?

Pedestrians react to context: a drawn weapon does not trigger the same reaction as a holstered one. Police remember your outfit, company, vehicle and behavior to build a profile, with more varied units including K9s.

Weapons are limited, RDR2-style: they stay in the car trunk and you pick a few before leaving. Cars have limited fuel, need upkeep, and better ones are harder to steal, sometimes with trackers. Subways, trains, app-ordered taxis and rental scooters let you get around without driving.

Why it matters

Nothing new in this list, but a solid starting point: police, weapons and fuel details come from previews and remain to be checked hands-on. The unknowns, unlock time and PC, are still open.
