Sony released PS5 system update 26.07-14.22.00 on Monday, November 2, a 1.267 GB file whose patch notes mention security fixes, IGN reports. It lands 17 days before GTA 6 launches on November 19.
The timing matters. The update comes only 11 days after 14.20, released on October 21, whose notes did not mention security but which was widely read as a response to recent events. IGN France makes the same point: Sony is trying to keep the homebrew scene from cracking the console before launch.

In late September a jailbreak covering every firmware from 7.00 to 13.60 shook the scene: any PS5, Pro included, that had not been updated in the previous week was compatible. A jailbroken console can be modified, which opens the door to game piracy. Some PS5 games then required firmware 14.00 to download updates, which restarted the hunt for a new jailbreak, according to IGN.
The outlet describes a game of whac-a-mole: homebrew developers release a jailbreak for the latest firmware, Sony answers with a patch, and it starts over. IGN also cites a hacker who caused an uproar by privately reporting an exploit to Sony for a $50,000 reward instead of sharing it with the community.

Rockstar has announced no minimum system version. IGN writes that some believe GTA 6 will need at least 14.20, or now possibly 14.22, and that Sony may ship more security updates before November 19. That is speculation, not an official statement. The release date is unchanged: November 19, with preload on November 12.
For a player who never touched the system software, the advice is simple: let the console update before preloading. Those who stay on an old firmware on purpose to keep jailbreak access may find some games refuse to launch or update, though nothing is confirmed for GTA 6.
For most players, nothing beyond one more download. For Sony and Rockstar, the goal is to lock the platform down before the biggest launch of the generation. IGN calls it something of an existential crisis for Sony, since publishers rely on it to secure their releases. More updates are likely before November 19.
