In Edge, Aaron Garbut says GTA 6 lets you play everyday life: cigarettes, beer, the train, a club. Rockstar says it wants everyone to play their own way.

"You can have your life in the game." The line comes from Aaron Garbut, quoted by GamingBolt from an Edge magazine interview relayed by GamesRadar. The Rockstar North development head describes a GTA 6 where you can role-play everyday life, far from pure chaos.

Garbut puts it this way: "You can really make the game what you want it to be at the time, whether that's more of a roleplay experience where you're buying cigarettes and beer in the shop and going on the train for the day, or going to a club." GamingBolt stresses that GTA 6 has no leveling system or loot tiers, yet moves closer to role-playing through choice: playing Lucia, Jason or both, building bonds, going to the gym while keeping a steady sleep schedule, or facing the consequences of your actions.
Head of technology Phil Hooker illustrates it with transport: he has "memorized all of the routes" of the bus network, because he prefers public transport to driving.
According to GamingBolt, the approach has a cost: you can no longer carjack as easily as before, and you cannot shake the police simply by avoiding them for a long time. Cars also need refueling. Co-studio head Rob Nelson explains the principle: "You don't want to feel like you're foisting things on the player and then have them reject those things. It's more about trying to let people lean into the way they want to play."

GamingBolt ties this to what Rupert Humphries, senior VP of narrative, said last month: realism for immersion, but not at the expense of what is "convenient for the player." The exact balance can only be judged with a controller in hand.
Rockstar's message seventeen days before the November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: GTA 6 wants to be a world where you can also simply live, not just a heist playground. This is not a promise of specific content, only an intention described by the developers, and the press has not played the final version yet.
