GTA 6 police will track your outfit, weapon, car and partner through a row of icons, per La Crème du Gaming and Begeek. Rockstar has detailed none of it.

In GTA 6 the police will no longer hunt a dot on the map: they will remember your outfit, weapon, vehicle and partner. That is what French outlets La Crème du Gaming and Begeek describe, based on previews from the Rockstar North visit. Rockstar has not published a detailed breakdown of the system, so treat these as press observations.

According to La Crème du Gaming, the six-star wanted level returns, alongside a row of "Heat" style icons: silhouette, outfit, car, weapon, duo and camera. Each lit icon shows what the law still knows about you. While one stays lit, the hunt goes on, sometimes long after the immediate chase ends.
Begeek adds that the response can escalate fast: coordinated radio calls, roadblocks, spike strips, helicopters, dogs. Witnesses, alarms, CCTV or a stolen car's tracker can start a search.
In GTA 5 the classic trick was to break line of sight, leave the search circle and wait for the stars to fade. Here, per La Crème du Gaming, a crime only counts if it is seen or reported, but it leaves a lasting trace. A quiet robbery with no witnesses, alarms cut, and a quick change of clothes and car sharply lowers the bar. Shooting in the open street fills every icon at once.

Begeek also notes that pedestrians react to a visible weapon: some panic, others challenge you or step in during a holdup. Escaping may mean dropping weapons, changing clothes or splitting from your partner, which clears the duo icon.
We already covered the chase with a K9 unit seen by Edge; these descriptions extend it to the rules of the game.
La Crème du Gaming also mentions a criminal profile reported by some outlets, which it presents as unconfirmed by the studio. Thresholds, how fast each icon fades and real difficulty are undocumented. We will know on launch day, 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version is announced. The full schedule is on the release page.
If these descriptions hold, a getaway becomes a small puzzle: hide the gun, swap the car, drop the partner. Chaos stays possible, but it will cost you. GTA 5 players used to shaking the police in three turns will have to relearn.
