In the demo shown to Edge, Jason grimaces and backs away from a dog-fouled house; the reaction is driven by the environment, not a cutscene, Watson and Journal du Geek report.

One detail from Edge's preview is making people smile: in GTA 6, characters react to smells. Watson and Journal du Geek both recap the 90-minute unscripted gameplay presentation held at Rockstar North in Edinburgh.

Per Watson, citing Edge, Rockstar first built a reaction animation for a specific unpleasant smell, then extended the system to other places. In the demo, Jason walks into a house fouled by a dog, grimaces and recoils.
Notably, Edge says the reaction was not a cutscene written for the moment but an interaction triggered by the environment itself. Rob Nelson led the demo.
No. It joins other findings from the same preview we already covered: 600,000 NPC animations, granular weather and the Jason and Lucia relationship. Journal du Geek also notes the game has gone gold and Rockstar considers it "ready for launch".

Unknown: whether smell affects gameplay beyond animation. Edge, as reported, does not say.
Not decisive, but another sign Rockstar wants reactions driven by the setting rather than scripted. Launch is November 19; see our release page.
