Le Parisien traces on October 30 how provocation, from the first GTA to San Andreas, became Rockstar's trademark ahead of GTA 6 on November 19.

Controversy is part of Grand Theft Auto's DNA, and Rockstar Games has turned it into a method. That is the argument of a long read published by Le Parisien on October 30, less than three weeks before GTA 6 launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

According to Le Parisien, the first Grand Theft Auto was not yet a Rockstar game: it was built by DMA Design and published by BMG Interactive. The two companies hired a controversial British publicist, Max Clifford, whose strategy was to deliberately trash the game's image by feeding stories to the English tabloids until it became a media phenomenon.
"And it worked. GTA immediately became a risqué product," Olivier Mauco, director of the European Video Game Observatory, tells the paper.
Mauco says the edgy side grew stronger with GTA 4 in 2008, seen as the first entry with a powerful narrative identity. The paper points to a tirade on migrant exploitation and loss of freedom, and to Liberty City's mock Statue of Liberty, with a chained, faintly beating heart inside.

Le Parisien then recalls the "Hot Coffee" affair around GTA San Andreas. Then-senator Hillary Clinton called for a Federal Trade Commission investigation, accusing the studio of misleading consumers about the age rating by hiding sexual content. A mini-game planned and then dropped by developers had stayed in the files, and a modder made it playable.
Rockstar had to pull the game from shelves and halt production for a time. In a Virgin Radio UK interview, Dan Houser says they "received huge fines" and describes a "very disturbing" period during which "some people resigned".
The piece is an analysis of the series, not a scoop: it brings no new information about GTA 6 itself. It does frame a PEGI 18 release whose campaign already mixes dark humor and Florida satire, as covered in our recent articles. What the game contains remains to be seen on November 19.
Nothing changes factually: date, price ($79.99 / €79.99 standard) and content stay as announced. It is a reminder that every GTA launch comes with a public debate Rockstar has learned to live with. Our release page keeps the countdown.
