"I feel like we built a pyramid on top of Mount Everest." The line comes from Aaron Garbut, head of Rockstar's Scottish studios, picked up by Gameblog from his interview in the latest issue of Edge Magazine. It sums up how the studio is living with the pressure ahead of November 19, 2026.

What does Aaron Garbut say about the pressure on GTA 6?

Thirteen years after GTA 5, expectations have no equivalent in gaming, and Garbut does not deny it. According to Gameblog, he says the pressure did not crush the teams, it pushed them further. His words: "We couldn't settle for something that merely matched expectations, or took the easy route. We made no compromise on scale, attention to detail, interactivity, storytelling or the open world."

Why a pyramid?

The image says excess: an entire monument built on the world's highest peak. It fits what the magazine detailed last week, from the Leonida map to the 600,000 NPC animations, covered in our Edge piece. Garbut also called the 2022 leak "invasive", the subject of our previous article: two sides of one interview, an exposed studio and an openly stated ambition.

Gameblog adds that players expect a lot on life simulation, started in GTA 5 and pushed far in Red Dead Redemption 2. The outlet goes further and says early reactions suggest Rockstar has exceeded expectations. That is Gameblog's view, not a fact: no review of the full game is published yet.

Why it matters

Nothing changes on the calendar: November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, preload on November 12, details on the release page. But the tone is set. Rockstar is not just selling a game, it is owning a bet on scale, and each detail Edge made public prepares the verdict. It lands in under three weeks, when players finally hold the controller.
