According to Edge's feature relayed by GamingBolt, GTA 6 weather affects boats, aircraft and pedestrians, and the day/night cycle is longer than in GTA V.

GTA 6 weather does more than change the sky: it alters the sea, flight and how passers-by behave, according to GamingBolt, which relays Edge magazine's feature. The same outlet reports in a second piece that Rockstar lengthened the day/night cycle because GTA V's timings made "everything feel too fast".

How does weather affect play?

Co-studio head Aaron Garbut contrasts it with the last game: "Generally speaking, it's either rainy or sunny" in GTA V, whereas "this game is much more granular". Per GamingBolt, you can sunbathe in one place and spot a storm in the distance; get closer and the environment changes. In busy areas, bad weather makes people scatter. Wind moves trees, but also clouds and ocean waves.

Edge also describes islands and buildings sheltering stretches of water, which changes sailing: "Depending on where you are in your boat, you'll skip over that stuff or get really rocked around by it." Flying into a storm causes turbulence and, if you stay too long, "light damage".

Why are days longer?

Co-studio head Rob Nelson told Edge the studio first used GTA V's timings. The result was poor: "everything felt too fast". He ties it to resolution: "As the resolution of the worlds goes up, there are things you can't get away with in the same way," as quoted by GamingBolt. His example is pedestrians reacting to a weapon drawn in front of them, which GTA V handled poorly.

The exact cycle length is not given in the sources, and nothing says how police react to storms. Those points remain unknown. On the world's size and interiors, see our piece on the Edge feature and Leonida, and on its inhabitants the 600,000 NPC animations.

Why it matters

Weather that touches driving, sailing and flying gives a reason to check the sky before heading out. These details come from press coverage, not a Rockstar document: the real result will be judged at launch on November 19. More on the release.
