The claim that GTA 6 review copies display their recipient's name has been challenged. Notebookcheck reports that Tom Henderson found no supporting evidence after looking into it, while NateTheHate also disputes the account to the best of his knowledge. These are reported assessments from two industry sources, rather than an official explanation from Rockstar.

Updating the earlier report

Our October 28 article described the alleged named watermarks as an unconfirmed report. The latest information requires a clearer warning: that specific claim is now disputed. Readers should not treat a reviewer's name appearing on screen as an established feature of the copies distributed ahead of release.

According to Notebookcheck, Henderson investigated the story and could not substantiate it. NateTheHate's response points in the same direction. Agreement between those accounts weakens the original rumour, although it does not provide a complete description of how Rockstar protects material supplied to reviewers.

Other precautions are not explained

The outlet also reports that Henderson referred to substantial security precautions. It gives no technical account of those precautions. That leaves no basis here for assuming invisible tracking, a particular online requirement, or any specific monitoring system. Replacing one unsupported explanation with another would leave readers with the same problem.

There are two separate questions: whether named watermarks exist and whether Rockstar has safeguards around advance access. Disputing the first does not establish that there are no safeguards. Equally, a general reference to security cannot be used as proof of every detailed theory circulating online. The source does not supply an official studio confirmation of the disputed feature.

Why it matters

The useful update is narrow but necessary. Named review-copy watermarks are no longer simply an unverified detail being repeated across reports; they are an allegation that other sources have actively challenged. We are adding a correction to our original article so that readers finding it later can see how the information developed.

This does not change what has been announced for the consumer release. Our GTA 6 release guide covers the practical calendar separately. Review security offers no new evidence about frame rates, story length or playable content, and should not be used to infer them. Those questions need their own reporting, with sources that actually address the game rather than the handling of early copies.
