Will GTA 6 have a performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series? According to Notebookcheck, leaks from development builds reference a fidelity mode and a performance mode, the latter possibly aiming for 40 to 60 frames per second. Rockstar has confirmed nothing of the kind.

Notebookcheck relies on an analysis by a user named Frizky, who revisited two images already in circulation. The first comes from the 2026 808mafia leak: graphical debug data on an Xbox, with very poor text quality, listing a fidelity mode and a 1440p to 2160p resolution. The second comes from a 2023 clip some attribute to Aaron Garbut's son, an origin Rockstar never confirmed. Frizky reads it as evidence of a performance preset in an earlier build.
These are clues from development builds, not from the game launching on 19 November. A mode can exist internally and be cut before release.
Notebookcheck recalls that Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, hinted that the PS5 and Xbox versions would target 30 fps. It also cites Digital Foundry, whose analysis of the Netflix Extended Look and other trailers captured on a base PS5 points to native 1440p at 30 fps, upscaled to 4K. Rockstar has published no technical sheet: as we noted when asking whether to change your TV, neither 4K, HDR nor graphics modes are confirmed.

Notebookcheck sees the PS5 Pro, helped by PSSR, as the best chance of smoother play before any PC port. It adds a caveat: the console remains CPU-limited, and Leonida's NPC behaviour and ray-traced lighting are heavy. The site also considers 40 or 60 fps unlikely on day one.
It also notes that review copies have reportedly gone out with watermarks meant to trace leakers, which would complicate any early performance reveal. We covered that in our piece on review copies. For dates and prices, the release page remains the reference.
Nothing is settled: no performance mode is announced, and 30 fps remains the safest assumption. The reviews expected before launch will show what PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series actually deliver. Until then, do not buy hardware counting on 60 fps.
