Do you need a new TV for GTA 6? According to Xboxygen, no, unless your current screen is really struggling. The French site notes that a Full HD or decent 4K set is enough to explore Vice City on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that buying anything before more is known would be premature.

Should you replace your TV before 19 November?

Short answer: only if your setup already bothers you. Xboxygen says a recent 4K set with good contrast and an effective game mode has no reason to be replaced for GTA 6. Moving from Full HD to 4K can make sense, though, especially if your screen is dim, shows washed-out blacks or has noticeable input lag.

What Rockstar has not confirmed

That is the real brake on buying. Xboxygen points out that Rockstar has not confirmed final graphics modes or frame rates. Nobody knows whether the game will offer several modes, which resolutions it will support, or whether it will be HDR compatible. The site even says the game may well run at 30 frames per second only, which is a guess and not an announcement.

So buying a 120 Hz panel for a 60 or 120 fps mode that may not exist would be a gamble. VRR mostly smooths out an unstable frame rate.

What to do in the meantime

Reviews come first: the embargo is reportedly expected on 18 November, as covered in our article on the review codes. Dates and editions are on the release page.

If you still want to upgrade, Xboxygen cites the LG OLED C6, said to offer 120 Hz Dolby Vision Gaming and 1,500 nits peak HDR brightness on 55 and 65 inch models, with four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting VRR. That is Xboxygen's pick, not a Rockstar recommendation.

Why it matters

Nothing decisive: GTA 6 does not make your TV obsolete. The sensible move is to wait for reviews and Rockstar's technical details, then buy, if needed, with facts instead of assumptions.
