A new PS5 exploit called Prolapse, revealed by Jose Coixao, reportedly works on firmware 14.00 and 14.10, but Sony's 14.20 update is said to patch it.

A new exploit is making the rounds in the PS5 homebrew scene. It is called Prolapse, it reportedly works on firmware 14.00 and 14.10, and Notebookcheck says it could bring GTA 6 within reach of pirates. Nothing is public yet, and the game is not out.

PlayStation security researcher Jose Coixao announced the exploit on social media, Notebookcheck reports. It is a kernel flaw tied to memory management in the aio_multi_delete function, in the same family as Relapse, the late-September jailbreak we covered in our firmware 14.10 piece. Coixao advises console owners not to install anything newer than 14.00.
The timing matters. On October 21 Sony released update 14.20, described as improved messaging and usability on some screens. Homebrew fans suspected a hidden security fix, and according to Coixao, quoted by Notebookcheck, it does patch the Prolapse flaw. We had already covered 14.20.
Not yet. Notebookcheck separates a kernel exploit from the hypervisor bypass needed to boot game backups. The Byepervisor-Reborn tool does not work past firmware 13.60. Coixao hints that 14.00 may support it after further research, without promising anything. Another hacker, Gezine, has teased an exploit for 14.10 but often keeps findings private to avoid speeding up Sony's countermeasures, so Prolapse is likelier to be released.

Another obstacle: data mined from the game suggests GTA 6 will require 14.10 to run, and nothing rules out an even newer firmware being demanded by launch. Notebookcheck also notes that players cannot log into PSN below 14.10.
For most players, nothing changes: release stays November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced. Owners of modified consoles face a simple choice: stay on 14.00 and lose PSN, or update. The story rests on a single source and a researcher's claims, so treat it with caution.
