In Australia, players fear having to prove their age to reach GTA 6's online modes, Screen Rant reports; Rockstar has confirmed nothing.

Can a real-world rule block access to Vice City? That is the fear circulating in Australia, reports Screen Rant, carried by OpenCritic on Saturday. The starting point is a thread on the r/PS5 subreddit.

The thread concerns reports that Australian players may need a driver's licence or another accepted form of ID to access age-restricted online games.
Screen Rant recalls that Australia introduced new age-verification requirements for certain online services on 9 March 2026. They cover games classified R18+, whose online components require an age check before access. The outlet asks it bluntly: could some fans be unable to play one of the decade's most anticipated games simply because they have no ID to show, or do not want to?
The piece talks about fears and reports, not a Rockstar decision. In what we could read, no confirmation from the studio or Sony is quoted, and how the check would apply to GTA 6 is not described.

Certain: GTA 6 is rated PEGI 18 in Europe, launches on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and includes a single-player experience. Unknown: the timing and form of the online mode, and so how an age check might apply to it. The source does not quote an Australian classification either.
Access to online play ties in with connection and offline play. Release details stay on our dedicated page, and we also looked at the launch seen from Australia.
For now, nothing concrete: it is a player worry resting on a real law. If you play from Australia, keep in mind that single-player appears designed to work offline, and wait for Rockstar to say what its online mode will require.
