Is GTA 6 coming to Switch 2? Nothing is announced, and a former Rockstar designer doubts it ever should. On the Kiwitalk podcast, picked up by Gamekult, Jérémy Hartvick, an open-world designer at Rockstar until 2020, said a port would not be "relevant".

Is GTA 6 coming to Switch 2?

No. The game launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has confirmed no other platform. Gamekult notes that the series traditionally lands on consoles first and PC later, and mentions a rumoured early 2027 PC date that it describes as unproven. We treat it the same way: no PC version is announced.

Hartvick's reasoning

According to Gamekult, he gives two reasons. The audience: "I'm not sure the GTA 6 audience matches the Switch audience. If you're a GTA fan, you'll probably buy a console the game comes out on." And the cost: why work so hard to ship a probably mediocre experience, "because the game is hard to port", when players will buy a PS5 anyway? He adds the idea is not "totally absurd" and that Nintendo is courting new players through third-party games.

Hartvick left in 2020 and does not speak for Rockstar. We quoted him earlier on post-launch layoffs; his view informs, it does not decide anything.

November's calendar

Gamekult points out that the Switch 2 gets its own blockbuster with the Ocarina of Time remake on November 5, with little else released that month. See also our PS4 and Xbox One explainer and the release page.

Why it matters

Nothing changes in the facts: PS5 and Xbox Series only, with no date for any other machine. But the argument is plain: Nintendo's console is not Rockstar's target. To play on November 19, you need a Sony or Microsoft console.
