US PS5 unit sales rose 22% in September, according to Circana figures reported by Briefs Finance. Sony's hardware revenue is up 43%, which puts it at the top of the console makers for the period.

According to Briefs Finance, two factors add up: price increases over the past year, which lift revenue per console, and interest in the $900 PS5 Pro. The outlet says the Pro is sold out or only sporadically in stock at Amazon, Best Buy, MediaMarkt and Yodobashi Camera. Many see it as the best way to play GTA 6, out on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A caveat: Circana measures the US market, and Briefs Finance does not say these purchases were made for GTA 6. It is a correlation with the calendar, not a buyer survey.
Briefs Finance says Nintendo's Switch 2 fell 14% year over year in September after a price hike, and that Sony and its peers face higher memory costs squeezing margins. The article gives no Xbox figure, so we do not make one up. On digital pre-orders, we already noted PlayStation's 74% share per Sensor Tower, and the PS5 Pro stock shortage reported by CNET.

Nothing changes for the date or prices: Standard and Ultimate editions, preload on November 12. But September's numbers confirm the game already weighs on the console market before launch. October and November data will show whether the trend continues. Editions are detailed in our price guide.
