GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming: 100 hours would cost about $24, if it's there

Xbox's new Cloud Playtime packs put streaming at about 24 cents an hour, but neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 on cloud.

What would it cost to play GTA 6 by streaming on Xbox? TweakTown ran the numbers on the Cloud Playtime packs Microsoft unveiled on 21 October: roughly $24 for 100 hours. The maths holds. The premise does not yet, because nobody has said GTA 6 will be playable in the cloud.

What is Xbox offering?

According to TweakTown, Xbox is testing playtime packs with Insiders at what it calls "introductory launch pricing": 10 hours for $3.99, 25 for $7.99 and 50 for $11.99. Two 50-hour packs come to $23.98, about 24 cents an hour. Xbox says purchased hours stay available until used.

These are US dollars in an Insider-only test. No euro price has been given, so we won't guess one for France.

Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Cloud Gaming?

Nobody has settled that. TweakTown recalls a report from The Verge about an exclusive streaming deal between Microsoft and Rockstar or Take-Two. Xbox strategy chief Matthew Ball corrected it: GTA "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC". We covered that line in our piece on the PC version.

Read literally, it rules out an exclusive deal and the PC app, but says nothing definite about cloud availability. TweakTown notes Xbox never wrote that GTA 6 would be on Xbox Cloud Gaming. You would also need to own the game, at €79.99 for the standard edition; the pack covers streaming time, not the licence. See our price page.

Why it matters

For now, almost nothing. GTA 6 launches on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that is where Rockstar set the date. Cloud could suit players without a Series X, but without confirmation it is all hypothetical. If Microsoft or Rockstar say more, we will report it here.
