With the November 19 launch four weeks away, every preorder raises the same question: which edition? US magazine PCMag answers in a comparison published today: buy Standard, unless you plan to live in Leonida for months.

What is the difference between the two editions?

Price first. PCMag notes that Standard costs $80, already above the usual price of a big game, and Ultimate costs $100. In France the announced prices are €79.99 and €99.99, with Ultimate sold digitally only. Both launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

According to the magazine, Ultimate adds extra weapons, cosmetics and cars: a 1995 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, plus new storefronts such as salons, tattoo parlors and gun-mod shops. Rockstar says the bonuses are "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter." Standard owners can pay to upgrade later.

Preorder bonuses apply to both

Both versions get the preorder perks: retro weapons, outfits and vehicles inspired by 1980s Vice City, plus one month of GTA+, valued by PCMag at $8. The magazine says the offer runs until November 20. We covered the basics in our editions guide.

PCMag's verdict

The writer admits some discomfort: a colleague calls it the annoying trend of cutting a game up to sell the rest as DLC, and a way to charge $100 without looking bad. But after reading the list, PCMag concludes the Ultimate perks are supplemental, not core to the game. Its advice: Ultimate for diehards, Standard for the curious, upgrade later.

This is an opinion, not a review: nobody has played the final build, and each bonus has to be checked at launch. What is documented is Ultimate's weight in sales: Sensor Tower estimates the $99.99 SKU alone outsells any other blockbuster tracked over six years.

Why it matters

Nothing changes in the editions themselves, but it is a useful marker before paying: the base game is not stripped of its story, and upgrading stays possible. Euro prices are on our price page.
