GTA 6: Rockstar grew from 2,400 to 4,700 staff, with 65 artists on the game

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, as relayed by TweakTown, Rockstar's headcount nearly doubled since 2018 and its art team went from 5-6 people on GTA V to 65 on GTA 6.

The numbers come from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, and TweakTown picked them up on October 20: between 2018 and 2026, Rockstar Games reportedly went from 2,400 to 4,700 employees. Almost double, and most of that growth comes down to one game.

How many artists work on GTA 6?

Sixty-five, according to Schreier's information as quoted by TweakTown. On GTA V the art team was 5 or 6 people. That is roughly a thirteen-fold increase, hence the site's headline. Treat it as an order of magnitude reported by a journalist, not an org chart published by Rockstar.

TweakTown adds that the studio hired more producers to smooth communication and track schedules, and works closely with independent artists on the game's many visual styles. That fits what Schreier said about the map, covered in our piece on eleven years of map work.

Why do these figures matter?

They put a concrete scale on a project whose budget is estimated at $2 billion, a figure that remains an estimate, not a confirmed number. While other publishers were cutting jobs, Rockstar was hiring. That matches a game billed as the biggest launch in entertainment history, due November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with every date on our release page.

TweakTown also notes that Rockstar is ramping up promotion in Miami, with in-universe ads for brands like Weazel News on real cars. Again, that is reported, and we covered it in the piece on the fake Miami ads.

Why it matters

Nothing changes for the release date, but it helps read the game. Sixty-five artists is a plausible explanation for the density of detail in the trailers and for a map drawn over more than a decade. What it looks like on screen is another matter: no team, however big, replaces the verdict of November 19.
