Rockstar's Miami campaign has at least one collateral victim. According to Kotaku, the man who posted the first video of the "Vice City" chairs and umbrellas on a Florida beach says it cost him his job.

What does Graham Simmon say?

Kotaku, quoting a TikTok video relayed by Dexerto, names the user: Graham Simmon. On October 20 he said: "A few days ago, I posted a video where I was unboxing these GTA 6 chairs on the beach. All the chairs, umbrellas, cabanas." His video had under 1,000 views when he was told to take it down. Too late, he says: others reposted the footage, which spread on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok until it went viral.

His employer did not like it, and he was fired. "So yeah, basically GTA 6 cost me my job," he says. Again per Kotaku, Simmon says he was new and had not been told he could not record and share the material. He is not angry: in the description of his video he admits it was "his fault", says he does not blame the company and calls it a "funny story".

Which campaign is this?

The Vice City branded chairs and umbrellas are part of a wider push in the city that inspired the game's setting. Kotaku also mentions blimps and an NBA game. We already covered the fake Pfister and Weazel ads appearing across Miami, and the crews filming Grotti style cars.

What do we know, and what do we not?

It all rests on his own account, relayed by Kotaku. As far as we can tell, neither Rockstar, Take-Two nor the company that employed Simmon has commented, and his employer is not named. Nothing says Rockstar asked for the dismissal: Simmon himself refers to the decision of the company he worked for.

Why it matters

Nothing for the game itself, but the episode shows how closely every visual of the campaign is watched. The beach footage went around the web within hours, though the original video had almost no audience. A month before the November 19 release, the discretion asked of installers makes sense, and so does fan curiosity. Latest details are gathered on our release page.
