Nobody had Cliff Richard on their bingo card. According to The Independent, "Devil Woman", released in 1976, is enjoying a new wave of popularity among younger listeners since it appeared in the GTA VI soundtrack.

The paper reports that the song's Spotify plays rose 325 per cent, based on figures reported last month. The track is on I'm Nearly Famous, the singer's 18th album, and peaked at No 9 in the UK and No 6 in the US, his first US Top 10.

Why is "Devil Woman" a hit in 2026?

Because it is used prominently in the Extended Look. The Independent quotes fans on X: "the best song from the extended look, I've been hooked on it since August", one writes. A 21-year-old says she tracked the song down on vinyl after hearing it in the video. Others are simply surprised to see Cliff Richard on the soundtrack.

The pattern is not new, the paper notes: Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" returned to the charts in 2020 after a viral TikTok, and Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" hit No 1 in the UK after Stranger Things in 2022. The song had already found a second life in the 2017 film I, Tonya.

The Independent also names other 70s and 80s tracks: "But I Think It's a Dream" by Captain and Tennille, "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung and "Let Your Love Flow" by the Bellamy Brothers. It says all of them have seen streams climb since the announcement. The official album has 34 tracks; see our music page for what we know.

It echoes Vice City, whose radio stations introduced a generation to 80s music. For how the game handles music, our radio page is the place to start.

Why it matters

For artists, a place in a GTA is a launchpad again, four weeks before the November 19 release. The figures come from reports relayed by The Independent, not from Spotify or Rockstar. Whether the effect lasts after launch remains to be seen.
