The console many players are eyeing for GTA 6 has become hard to find. CNET reports the PlayStation 5 Pro disappeared from every major US retailer within weeks of the extended trailer shown in late August, and ties the rush directly to Rockstar's game, due November 19, 2026.

Why is the PS5 Pro in short supply?

According to CNET, two causes stack up. Demand: GTA 6 launches only on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S, and buyers who want the best version are turning to Sony's top console, especially with no PC version announced. Supply: a global memory chip shortage, driven by AI infrastructure demand, has squeezed hardware all year.

CNET writes that Sony reportedly told distributors in September the PS5 Pro would stay in limited supply until 2027, citing "temporary market supply constraints" and high demand. Sony did not answer CNET's request, and we have no confirmation from the company itself.

What does it cost now?

The console launched in November 2024 at $700 and now retails at $900, CNET says. In France we had already noted a PS5 Pro listed at 899 euros at some retailers in our console guide. The game itself is $80 to preorder in the US, 79.99 euros for the standard edition in France.

Why it matters

Rockstar built GTA 6 to run on the base PS5 as well as the Pro, which offers better frame rates and improved 4K processing. Nobody has to wait for a Pro to play on November 19. Those who planned to buy one should act early: if the shortage CNET describes reaches Europe, the console could sell at a premium until launch. We have no French stock figures. Our release page keeps the confirmed dates.
