In Miami, Vice City is no longer just a game setting. Fortune, in a piece carried by Yahoo, describes Miami-Dade County split over how to cash in on GTA 6, due November 19, 2026. After Miami Beach, the county level is now the fight.

What did the county pitch to Rockstar?

Fortune relies on documents obtained by The Miamian. On June 29, county officials sent Rockstar a deck of ideas: a "Vice City Airport" arrival experience at Miami International, Metromover cars in game branding, a PortMiami mural, custom manhole covers in Brickell and a car festival at Tropical Park. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's office sees revenue, and says nothing has been approved.

Who objects?

On September 3, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez issued a joint statement against using public resources to promote the game. Bermudez: "We should be promoting the Miami-Dade we have worked so hard to build, not a fictional version of our community defined by crime and violence." It ends: "Miami-Dade County is not Vice City."

On October 6, several commissioners led by René Garcia objected to the mayor's staff negotiating paid promotions at county facilities. Oliver Gilbert pushed the vote to the October 20 meeting. Any deal above $1 million must return to the board.

What is already done

On September 22, a helicopter set a pink "Welcome to Vice City" sign on the roof of the county-owned Kaseya Center under a $975,000 agreement, $25,000 under the threshold requiring a vote. Miami Beach approved up to $4 million on September 10, as we covered in our piece on the 4-3 vote. The City of Miami approved banners worth up to $1.2 million.

Fortune also notes that on November 18, the Heat will play the Bucks in reimagined uniforms on a custom court for "A Night in Vice City".

Why it matters

The debate is not only local. It shows the game weighs enough to put elected officials on the spot between revenue and civic image. The October 20 vote will tell whether Miami-Dade adds more activations or stops at the Kaseya Center sign. For the game side, the release page stays up to date.
