Is a PS5 Pro worth buying for GTA 6? The question comes up in every player conversation, and Mashable devotes a piece to it that admits its thin material up front: Rockstar has published no spec sheet for any console.

The only official line for months, writes Alex Perry, is that the game "plays best on PS5". It says nothing about PS5 Pro, or the gap between base PS5 and Xbox Series X. The extended Netflix trailer was apparently captured on a base PS5, per the outlet.

What does the wet-street screenshot show?

A recent image shows a city street at night after rain, with reflections of a quality not seen in the base PS5 footage. Digital Foundry's Oliver Mackenzie said on X that they likely use ray tracing, a demanding real-time lighting technique.

Mackenzie also warned the image may not show console gameplay at all: Rockstar could have made it from an internal PC build. Mashable stresses it all rests on a single screenshot. A base PS5 can do ray tracing, as in the Spider-Man games, but given GTA 6's density the outlet finds it plausible the feature is reserved for PS5 Pro, as Ghost of Yotei did for its best modes.

How much is the bet?

Mashable puts a PS5 Pro at $900 under the best conditions and up to $1,300 on the secondary market because of a shortage. We covered the PS5 Pro shortage and Sony's announced features in our PS5 features piece. The author, a Pro owner, notes big games almost always gain something, while promising nothing for GTA 6.

On PC there is nothing either: Rockstar has announced no version, and GTA V took two years to get there.

Why it matters

Nothing is confirmed, which is the actual news. A month before the November 19 launch, no version has official specs or a named graphics mode. Before choosing a console, wait for the first tests rather than pay extra for a screenshot. Our release page stays the reference.
