Sony picked its day. According to JeuxVideo.com, the company announced on October 13, on PlayStation Japan's X account, a PS5 Midnight Black edition at 55,000 yen, about 310 euros, available on November 19, 2026, the worldwide launch day of GTA 6. Preorders open October 20. The price applies to Japan only.

How much is it, and against what?

JeuxVideo.com compares it with list price: the standard digital PS5 sells there for 89,980 yen (about 507 euros), a 38.87% cut. The console keeps its AMD Zen 2 processor, 16 GB of memory and 825 GB SSD, the site says. The matching external disc drive costs 11,980 yen (about 67 euros), bringing the full bundle to 66,980 yen, roughly 378 euros.

The target, per the site, is the Nintendo Switch 2, whose Japanese price was raised to 59,980 yen in May 2026 (about 380 euros) and which reportedly sold 6.3 million units there in fourteen months. The Midnight Black PS5 would be 4,980 yen cheaper.

What does it have to do with GTA 6?

The date, not an announced partnership: JeuxVideo.com notes the launch coincides exactly with the game's and reads it as a push to get players onto the hardware first. It adds that Sony would recoup on the PlayStation Store. Those are the site's readings; as far as we know Sony did not mention GTA 6 in its announcement.

Nothing changes elsewhere: the game launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, at 79.99 euros for the standard edition, as our price page details. No equivalent console price has been announced for Europe.

Why it matters

For most readers, nothing direct: this is a Japanese offer. It does show that November 19 is now a commercial date for the whole ecosystem, and that console pricing weighs as much as the game's. See also the release page for the November 12 preload.
