Sony unveiled an all-black PS5 Digital Edition, "Midnight Black", on its Japanese blog on Tuesday, October 13. It launches November 19, the same day as GTA 6, for 55,000 yen (about 310 euros, per Numerama). The catch: it only works in Japan.
It is the Japan-only PS5 Digital Edition released in November 2025 for the console's fifth anniversary, now in black. Univers-Simu says pre-orders open October 20 at Japanese retailers, with a black DualSense included. A matching disc drive sells separately for 11,980 yen (about 70 euros).
Nothing officially ties it to Rockstar. Univers-Simu notes Sony mentions no GTA VI bundle or edition; the game only appears among the big PlayStation releases listed in the announcement.
Not realistically. Sony states, as quoted by GamesRadar, that it works only with an account set to the "Japanese" language and "Japan" region. Numerama adds that data from accounts of other regions cannot be moved over, only the Japanese PlayStation Store is available, and the unit is built for 100-volt power. Your existing account and library would not follow.

In France the international PS5 Digital Edition costs 599.99 euros since April's 100-euro increase, per Numerama. GamesRadar quotes $599.99 and £519.99. Even in Japan the international model costs more: 72,980 yen, 17,980 above the local one.
None is announced. GamesRadar expects Sony to release "something fresh" for the western launch and notes GTA 6 DualSense pre-orders opened in September; a bundle or faceplates is an expectation, not a fact. For the supply side, see our piece on PS5 Pro shortages through 2027, and the release page.
For readers outside Japan, nothing changes: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, preload on November 12, and no cheaper console is coming here. The real signal is Sony timing hardware around the game, plus its plan to stop selling new physical PlayStation games from January 2028.
