How big will GTA 6 be on PS5 and Xbox Series? Rockstar has not said. The figure going around, over 200 GB, comes from Cyberleek: according to Notebookcheck, the leaker claims the build used in his videos exceeds that size and that he would distribute it if his memecoin reaches a $30 million market cap.

What do we actually know about GTA 6's size?

Almost nothing solid. The final size is not announced, and a development file is not the game sold in stores. Notebookcheck points out that the number could refer to packages shared on piracy sites or simply the space used on the leaker's drive. It adds that such builds often include tools and assets that never ship, and that studios compress textures before release. In September, a 192 GB archive of an early GTA V build leaked, and it held far more than the game.

What is established is the scale of the ambition. According to Notebookcheck, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson confirmed in August that the map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's. For comparison, GTA V takes about 95 GB on PS5 and 105 GB on PC. Doubling that would not be unprecedented: some Call of Duty entries already exceed 200 GB.

When can you start downloading?

Pre-loading opens on November 12, a week before the November 19 launch, as laid out on our release page. That head start exists to absorb a large file. Buyers of the boxed version with just a code, which we covered here, will also have to download everything: there is no disc.

My own read as a physicist, which is not Rockstar's word: a map twice as large, detailed interiors and 4K-ready textures push the size up. Compression and stripping out working data can bring it down a lot. Cyberleek's number is a plausible upper bound, not a forecast. The background of the threat is in our piece on the ultimatum.

Why it matters

If your PS5 or Series X|S is already full, clear space now and plan generously until an official size is given, which Rockstar has not done. Still unknown: the exact download weight, and how much a day-one patch adds.
