GTA 6: the questions the previews still leave unanswered

Retrospective: written in October 2026 from the sources of the time

Polygon lists what neither Netflix nor Game Informer cleared up. Three stand out: cheat codes, a possible third hero, and review copies.

Since Netflix's extended look in August, Rockstar has said little. Then on September 29, Game Informer published its 14-page deep dive on dynamic weather, NPCs and six areas of the map. Right after, Polygon listed twelve big questions that remain open. These are the ones that intrigue us most.

Cheat codes, missing from the previews

According to Polygon, Rockstar has not officially confirmed the return of cheat codes in the interviews and footage shown. The outlet still thinks it likely: GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 each had dozens, disabling achievements, and RDR2 limited their use to progress the story. Nothing says which model Rockstar will pick here.

A third playable character?

Raul Bautista, who hires Jason and Lucia for a car chase in the Netflix showcase, is the fans' favourite for the role. But per Polygon, his bio on the official site describes a seasoned bank robber looking for talent, so more of a mentor or client. Rockstar also confirmed it considered four protagonists before dropping the idea, fearing it would dilute the bond with each: Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told IGN in August, Polygon reports.

Review copies before launch?

Every games journalist is wondering if and when Rockstar will send advance copies, writes Polygon. The studio has been very selective with previews, from IGN and Game Informer to The New York Times, Dazed and YouTube and Twitch creators. Polygon sees several scenarios, from wide access weeks ahead to a handful of copies to prevent leaks. These are the outlet's guesses, nothing is announced. We follow the topic in the journal.

What we know since

The schedule has not moved: GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preload on November 12, PEGI 18, 79.99 € for standard and 99.99 € for Ultimate, and no PC version announced. In the sources we have read, none of these three questions has an official answer.

Why it matters

These silences are part of Rockstar's method: show little, but choose your relays. For players it means waiting until launch, or at best the final days, to learn whether cheats and reviews will show up. Until then, read lists like this as reading guides rather than revelations.
