Jason's backflip from the Extended Look has been pulled off in real life

Retrospective: written in October 2026 from the sources of the time

An athlete proved that Jason's stiff pier jump is doable, after several tries.

Of the twenty-seven minutes of the Extended Look, one moment got people talking more than the rest: Jason doing a running backflip off the end of a pier toward blue water. According to Kotaku, the sequence turned into a small meme among fans, some calling it impossible.

Aspen Tree's challenge

Content creator Aspen Tree, an athlete used to acrobatics, set out to settle it. Per Kotaku, even he struggled: the move requires running, jumping off two feet and slowing the rotation a little, as the animation does. After some trial and error, he landed it. The writer concludes he could never do it, and that many readers could not either.

Stiff, but not absurd

The Kotaku writer admits the animation looks a little stiff, "off" or "bad" to several people he showed the trailer to. He also leaves room for fanciful explanations: Jason may be far more athletic than we think, or may have spent years in the circus. The likelier one is more mundane: the animation just does not flow like the rest.

One thing I note: the shot exists and it is readable. For other details spotted by the community, head to the community.

Why it matters

Nothing for the game itself, but the story shows how closely every frame of the Extended Look has been dissected since August 27. It does not say whether the animation will be touched up before launch, and no source suggests it.

What we know since

The game launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading on November 12 and a PEGI 18 rating. Prices: €79.99, or €99.99 for the Ultimate. No PC version has been announced.
