While everyone looks at Vice City, another corner of the GTA community is preparing a comeback. GamesRadar+ reports that nopixel V, the big rebuild of the nopixel roleplay server, will open a closed beta on September 8 for a small group of players. The announcement came from Koil, the server's creator, in the official Discord on August 13: "We are excited to show you what we've been working on."

An invite-only beta

Also according to GamesRadar+, nearly 450 content creators and everyday players have already been invited. Koil calls it "a full rebuild" and says invitations will roll out in phases: anyone who has not received one "hasn't been ruled out". He also describes the launch as a "fresh start" for the whitelist. The two existing servers, nopixel Public and nopixel 4.0, stay active and supported.

The sticking point

Earlier versions of nopixel caused some ill will: GamesRadar+ recalls priority boosts charged at up to $500 for fifteen days of potential access, plus paid extra character slots. Koil says nothing about what happens to those boosts in nopixel V. All he offers is a more inclusive whitelist, which is not an answer.

Rockstar's role

This is the real story. GamesRadar+ writer Ashley Bardhan notes that Rockstar acquired the team behind FiveM in 2023, the GTA V multiplayer mod that powers nopixel, and then chose to collaborate on nopixel V after years of the server being a fan project. It will also come to the Rockstar Games Launcher. She reads this as a wish to present the most popular mods as extensions of the brand, part commercial interest, part control. That is her analysis, not a Rockstar statement; the studio has said nothing about its plans for GTA Online.

On the newsroom side, we are watching from the sofa: roleplay is a slice of GTA culture we follow in our community section.

What we know since

GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from November 12, a PEGI 18 rating, and prices of 79.99 euros for the standard edition and 99.99 euros for the Ultimate. No PC version has been announced, which leaves PC roleplayers a single playground for now: GTA V.

Why it matters

Rockstar no longer treats roleplay servers as a gray area. If it folds them into its storefront, GTA V will live on well after GTA 6 launches, and the line between fan mod and official product will blur.
