Take-Two published its fiscal 2027 first-quarter results on August 6, 2026, and the headline for players is short: GTA VI is still on for November 19. Variety reports $1.39 billion in sales between April 1 and June 30, the quarter in which pre-orders opened, with losses widening. IGN Nordic confirms the date has not moved, while Reuters headlines that the publisher is sticking to its annual bookings forecast and says it is on track for the November launch.

CEO Strauss Zelnick described pre-order levels as “unprecedented and astonishing” and called it an “exceptional start to pre-orders,” according to Variety's headline. Adjectives, then. Not one number.

What the figures say

The $1.39 billion covers 91 days, roughly $15 million a day across Take-Two's whole catalogue. GTA VI is not out yet, so most of that total presumably comes from games already on sale, and nothing we cite lets us isolate the next Rockstar release's share.

IGN Nordic relays a company that calls its results “excellent,” a GTA series that “once again exceeded expectations” and a GTA V past 230 million copies, the second best-selling game behind Minecraft (400 million). GTA V thus sits at a little over 57% of Minecraft's total, and the series still posted 3% growth in microtransactions. An old game that keeps growing is the ground GTA VI will land on.

What the figures leave out

There is no pre-order count. “Unprecedented” is measured against something, and that something is not given: no benchmark, no unit, no comparison period. The widening losses Variety mentions are a reminder that a launch quarter costs money before it earns any, although the reasons are not in the material we cite.

One more nuance: Reuters' headline says Take-Two is maintaining its annual bookings forecast. Maintaining is not raising, which is a cautious signal from a group describing an extraordinary pre-order start. Take-Two also says “Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look” will help build consumers' “passion and anticipation.” Still, to a physicist a curve without axes is just a drawing. And for a PC player, a pre-order curve leads nowhere: no version has been announced.

What we know since

GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-loading from November 12 and a PEGI 18 rating. The standard edition costs €79.99 and the Ultimate edition €99.99 (see the price page), while the Goodtime State collector's edition is €399.99 without the game. GTA VI: The Album also arrives on November 19, and the Extended Look aired on August 27. No PC version has been announced.

Why it matters

For players nothing changes on the calendar: November 19 is still November 19. For anyone tracking the company's health, the message is twofold, enthusiastic in its adjectives and cautious in its guidance. Until Take-Two gives a pre-order figure, “astonishing” remains a word, not a measurement.
