Sony says it has enough memory to hit its PS5 targets ahead of GTA 6

According to IGN, Sony says it has secured the memory needed for its PS5 sales plan this fiscal year, despite a component crunch pushing console prices up.

I will admit I look at consoles the way I look at my father's clocks: you only notice the mechanism when a part is missing. According to IGN Nordic, Sony insisted it has enough memory to meet its PlayStation 5 sales targets for the current financial year, with GTA 6 now looming in November. The sentence is short, but it answers a worry many players have been chewing on for weeks.

A crisis that hits everyone

IGN calls it the "RAMpocalypse": a global shortage of memory and storage fed by AI data center demand, shifted manufacturing capacity and soaring component prices. All three platform holders are affected. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have each announced hardware price hikes, and there are fears there will not be enough consoles to meet demand, even at the higher prices.

Why GTA 6 weighs on the equation

GTA 6 is announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version. In other words, the only way to play it on November 19 is a current-generation console, and a game of this size works as a hardware accelerator. If stock ran short, it would be the most visible bottleneck of the autumn. Hence the interest of Sony's statement, which reads as a message to investors as much as to buyers.

The source gives no volumes or precise prices, so it should be read for what it is: a company's assurance about its own supply, not a guarantee of availability on shelves. The game's own pricing is on the prices page.

What we know since

The date has not changed: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preload on November 12, at 79.99 € standard and 99.99 € Ultimate. In mid-August, PC Gamer noted the PS5 Pro was selling for around $900 in the United States, a sign that pressure on hardware prices had not eased.

Why it matters

For a player torn between waiting and buying a console now, nothing decisive: Sony's promise covers its sales plan, not your local retailer. But the subject has changed in nature. Before, we asked whether GTA 6 would hold its date. Now we also ask how much the machine to play it will cost. I would watch November prices before spending anything.
