Journal du Geek plays down Rockstar's silence while GamesRadar+ predicts five big beats before launch. Between them sits a question of definition: what counts as gameplay?

Four months before November 19, the same question fills every thread: where is the GTA 6 gameplay? French outlet Journal du Geek devotes a long piece to it today, July 30, and concludes that part of the worry is about vocabulary. Tomorrow GamesRadar+ will publish its predictions for the next hundred days. The two texts answer each other, and that is what interests me.
Journal du Geek does the count: since December 5, 2023, two trailers and about 130 images, while preorders have been open since June 25. For many players that is thin for a purchase. The site reminds readers that Rockstar stated the second trailer was "captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5", equal parts gameplay and cutscenes, running on its in-house RAGE engine, developed since 2006.
The real friction lies elsewhere. Still according to Journal du Geek, those sequences are staged with the Rockstar Editor: camera placed at the best angle, minimap and interface removed. A longtime player recognizes gameplay, everyone else sees cutscenes. What is missing is not necessarily play, but raw play, HUD included.

At GamesRadar+, the editor-in-chief bets on a big event before Gamescom, called Trailer 3 or something else: a real gameplay showcase built around switching between Jason and Lucia and around life in Leonida. He also points to Take-Two's shareholder meeting on September 17 as a natural moment to polish the image, and asks for news on GTA Online, whose players are largely still on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
These are predictions, not announcements. The author admits Rockstar is historically secretive and, given how much leaked in 2022, may keep its cards close, press hands-on sessions included. The studio's calendar answers to nobody.
On August 6, Rockstar announced an "Extended Look" airing first on Netflix on August 27, then on YouTube six hours later. The game itself has not moved: release on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, preload on November 12, PEGI 18, 79.99 € standard and 99.99 € Ultimate. No PC version has been announced. Full details are on the release page.
The debate says as much about Rockstar as about us. A studio that shows almost nothing and still sells at this pace puts itself under rare pressure: the longer the silence, the higher the bar for the first real gameplay. What strikes me is that nobody asks whether the game exists anymore. People ask what it looks like with a controller in hand. The answer is coming, and it will be examined under a magnifying glass.
