Nobody saw it coming. On May 6, 2025, Rockstar posted the second Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on its Newswire, captioned with a single line: "Vice City, USA." It landed four days after the delay to May 26, 2026 was announced, and more than a year after the first trailer in December 2023. An official website for the game went up alongside it, and the press went through the footage frame by frame, Kotaku and IGN Latinoamérica among them.
According to IGN Latinoamérica, which notes the footage was captured on a base PlayStation 5, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are joined by new characters: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. The outlet also lists named locations: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, Tisha-Wocka, VC Port, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, the Delights cabaret, Ambrosia, the Allied Crystal refinery and Mount Kalaga. The first trailer gave almost no geographic landmarks; this one starts to sketch the map of the State of Leonida.

The piece that stopped me comes from Kotaku. Its author writes that what surprised him most is the relationship between Jason and Lucia: Jason picking Lucia up outside prison and, at the very end, Lucia walking in, tossing her keys on the table and collapsing onto him as he dozes in front of the TV. Kotaku points out that the series long treated couples as punchlines, from San Andreas to GTA V, with Nico and Kate in GTA IV the closest thing to a real relationship. That leaves the question he asks himself: can Rockstar sustain 30 to 70 hours of game on that tenderness? He admits he does not know.
None of the three sources discusses game length, missions, multiplayer or a PC version; they describe characters, places and a tone. The trailer is therefore neither a gameplay promise nor a schedule. It does confirm the announced direction: a central duo, Vice City as the setting, a game built for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The May 26, 2026 date did not hold. Rockstar moved the game to November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading on November 12, a PEGI 18 rating, €79.99 for the standard edition and €99.99 for Ultimate. No PC version has been announced. We track the details on our release page.
Trailer 2 turned GTA VI from a promise into a world with addresses and faces. It also set the terms of the debate: people will talk about the couple as much as the chaos. The journal keeps track of every step that followed.
