It is the first delay. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI would not come out in fall 2025 but on May 26, 2026, IGN reports. The studio apologizes in a statement: "We are very sorry that this is later than you expected."

The text is plain. Rockstar speaks of interest that has been "truly humbling for our entire team" and says the goal has always been to exceed expectations, Grand Theft Auto VI included. It asks players to understand that the extra time is needed to deliver "at the level of quality you expect and deserve", quotes IGN. No technical reason is spelled out.
At Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick backs the decision in a note to investors: the publisher fully supports Rockstar taking extra time to realize its vision, and the game moves into the 2027 fiscal year. In February, asked by IGN, he had said he felt "really good" about fall 2025, while warning that slippage is always a risk, per IGN.
No new visual comes with the announcement, so the wait for a second trailer goes on. Platforms are not named either, which fuels speculation about a PC release, IGN notes. We have no confirmation and do not relay it as news.
The delay frees up the second half of 2025. IGN names Borderlands 4, Battlefield, Marathon, Ghost of Yotei, and the Switch 2 getting ready. Publishers who had aimed at May 2026 will have to rethink their calendars.
The second trailer arrived four days later, and Take-Two confirmed the May 26, 2026 date on May 15. It did not hold: Rockstar delayed again, to November 19, 2026. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading on November 12, a PEGI 18 rating, €79.99 for the standard edition and €99.99 for Ultimate. No PC version is announced.
Six more months for players, and above all the start of a moving calendar that this site follows. Editions are detailed on the price page.
