Rockstar confirms the intrusion and says development will carry on

Twenty-four hours after 90 GTA 6 videos leaked, Rockstar broke its silence. In a message posted on Twitter and reported by Polygon and Eurogamer, the studio admits it suffered a "network intrusion" in which an unauthorised third party downloaded confidential information, including early development footage of the next Grand Theft Auto. It is the first official confirmation that the leak is genuine.

What the message says, and does not say

Rockstar writes that it expects no disruption to its live services and no long-term effect on its ongoing projects, that work on the next GTA "will continue as planned", and that it is "extremely disappointed" to see details shared this way. It promises to "properly introduce" the game when ready. The text only mentions development footage: it says nothing about source code or a playable build, both of which the hacker had floated the day before, according to Polygon.

Take-Two and the markets

Publisher Take-Two acknowledged the incident in an SEC filing, saying it had "already taken steps to isolate and contain" it, Eurogamer writes. According to Reuters, cited by the site, its shares were down about 6% in premarket trading on Monday. Rockstar's lawyers are working to scrub the videos, yet Eurogamer still found copies easily that afternoon.

The hacker, still bargaining

Per Polygon, the individual, who also claimed the Uber attack, said they were willing to "negotiate a deal" with Rockstar. Eurogamer mentions unconfirmed reports that GTA V's source code was being offered for sale. Across the industry, messages of support poured in: Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann wrote that leaks "will be relegated to a footnote on a Wikipedia page" and that developers should keep making art.

What we know since

The studio delivered on the substance: the game is called Grand Theft Auto VI and launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preload on 12 November and a PEGI 18 rating. The standard edition costs €79.99, Ultimate €99.99, and no PC version has been announced. Details are on our release page.

Why it matters

The confirmation removes any doubt about the videos and sets Rockstar's line: no panic, no extra detail. It does not say what the hacker still holds. On 19 September 2022 the source code question therefore remains open, and the promise of a proper reveal is the only official answer.
