On 18 September 2022, a GTAForums user posted a roughly 3 GB archive holding 90 GTA 6 videos. According to The Verge, citing PC Gamer, the account "teapotuberhacker" also claims to be behind the Uber hack of a few days earlier. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier says, again per The Verge, that he verified the footage with sources at Rockstar.

What the videos show

It amounts to about an hour of very raw footage. Polygon and The Verge describe a protagonist named Lucia robbing a restaurant and threatening customers and staff, a shootout with police, and a playable male character. The words "Vice City" appear in some shots, one clip shows the "Vice City Metro", and a poolside conversation recalls the background chatter of Red Dead Redemption 2. Placeholder text, object-detection boxes and Rockstar's own internal debug tools are all visible: the game is far from finished.

Lining up with earlier reports

The clips match what Bloomberg published earlier in the year: a heroine inspired by Bonnie and Clyde and a return to a fictional Miami. Polygon adds that, per Bloomberg, work began in 2014, progress was slow and a release before 2024 was unlikely. The Verge notes some clips run on RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3080 cards, which caps the age of the build at around two years.

Threats and first reactions

The hacker says it is "possible" they will release the source code of GTA V and GTA 6, even a test build, then asks anyone working at Rockstar or Take-Two to contact them to "negotiate a deal", Polygon reports. Take-Two, for its part, began filing copyright takedowns on YouTube, but many videos were still up that day, The Verge writes.

What we know since

Rockstar confirmed the intrusion the very next day. The game is called Grand Theft Auto VI, Lucia is indeed one of its two official protagonists, and it launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preload on 12 November and a PEGI 18 rating. The standard edition costs €79.99; no PC version has been announced. Everything is on our release page.

Why it matters

This first look confirms the broad strokes already reported, two protagonists and a Miami-inspired setting, but on unfinished material. It should be read as a photo of a building site, not a preview of the final product. Rockstar's response, due within days, would show what the studio itself acknowledges.
